Environmentally Friendly Power
Deployment of the Validus system creates numerous opportunities to reduce the maintenance and operational costs associated with the critical facility infrastructure. These savings are driven by the fact that many of the components we are used to in the AC world are simply no longer necessary in a direct current power system and the elimination of these components drives considerable maintenance and testing savings throughout the lifecycle of the system. The major maintenance cost reductions can be achieved from some or all of the following:
Mitigation of Equipment Components
When compared to a traditional multi-module AC UPS system, a single Validus system displaces up to 4 paralleled AC UPS modules in an N system configuration. When a medium voltage input is used into the PQM, an entire MV to LV substation is also eliminated.
MAINTENANCE SAVINGS WITH VALIDUS TECHNOLOGY
Comparing a 3.0 MVA AC UPS system to a similarly rated Validus system at medium voltage, the following items and their related recurring maintenance costs are eliminated from the AC system:
(1) 3.33 MVA Sub Station
(1) Sub Station Distribution Switchboard with 7 draw out circuit breakers
(5) 750 KVA UPS Modules
(1) UPS Static Transfer Switch
(1) String of Batteries and associated DC Disconnect SwitcH
Monitoring system points associated with the above devices
Removal of the above equipment results in the following maintenance savings:
•Annual preventative maintenance, cleaning and IR scanning of substation transformer.
•Recommended NETA testing of substation transformer every 5 years.
•Annual preventative maintenance, inspection and IR scanning of (1) substation output, (4) UPS input, (1) STS input and (1) Maintenance bypass circuit breakers. Depending on the end user’s scheduling, the cost of primary and/or secondary injection testing of these breakers is also saved.
•Service, support and preventative maintenance contracts on (4) UPS modules.
•Service, support, and preventive maintenance on one string of batteries and associated disconnect switch and spill containment system.
•Maintenance of UPS load bus synchronization system.
•Maintenance of UPS Static transfer Switch and associated controls.
•Maintenance and testing of UPS System Level controls.
The architecture of the Validus system allows end users to substantially reduce the ongoing maintenance costs of their critical power system while increasing facility up time by mitigating wasteful AC equipment components.
