Direct Current Power Solutions
Validus DC Systems offers a complete integrated direct current power solution that reliably and efficiently supports the deployment of -48 VDC powered equipment in mission critical facilities throughout the world. This solution has been designed to be deployed universally, using equipment that is uniformly powered and common to all countries. The Validus solution utilizes a -575 VDC power distribution system and our patented Power Converter Unit to provide -48 VDC at the point of use (this is accomplished by distributing -54 VDC from the output of the Power Converter Unit to the server racks). Our solution is composed of a family of DC products that have been engineered for modularity, scalability, and to provide the highest reliability and the lowest total cost of ownership. Validus provides the necessary planning, technical assistance, start-up, commissioning and maintenance in support of the DC power solution.
The enabling equipment component in the Validus DC solution is the Power Converter Unit (“PCU-120”). The PCU-120 is a state-of-the-art product that efficiently converts up to 120 KW of power from -575 VDC to -54 VDC. The PCU-120 is composed of up to four (4) independent, 30 KW Power Conversion Modules (“PCM”) that can be “hot swapped” under load. The PCU- 120 is equipped with an advanced user interface system which includes multiple options for monitoring the equipment on an internal network or over the Internet. The system is designed to distribute -54 VDC power from the PCU-120 to a 2,400 amp, fused power distribution module, the PDM-055 or directly to a -60 VDC rated bus duct system.
In a typical system design, AC power is provided to the Validus Power Quality Module (“PQM”) from the utility source. The PQM can be configured to accept a wide range of AC voltage inputs at either 50 or 60 Hz. with ratings from 150 KW up to 2.5 MW. The PQM units are manufactured with 12 pulse, air-cooled, SCR devices and utilize a state-of-the-art, solid-state, phase locked loop controller which includes a variety of enhanced features to ensure compatibility with the VDCS product family. The PQM has been designed to provide a highly reliable system input power source and can be equipped with a number of proactive monitoring features.
Validus DC Systems offers a modular Power Distribution Module (“PDM-550”). This scalable, 600 VDC rated switchboard integrates multiple system inputs, stored energy devices, battery chargers and provides critical load distribution at the -575 VDC level. The PDM-575 has been designed to support a number of system topologies and can be readily applied in Tier 1 through Tier 4 applications. Each section of the switchboard can be configured to accept multiple inputs from similar sources to increase system reliability and stability. The PDM-575 includes a standardized interface for the Validus PQX line of battery chargers and PBS battery cabinet systems. The PDM-575 includes dedicated 24 VDC controls, blocking diodes, heat sinks and all required interface components.
